Kylie Smiles wins at 2026 ARV Industry Awards
Yawa Aquatic Centre has been recognised at the 50th annual 2026 Aquatics & Recreation Victoria (ARV) Industry Awards, with team members celebrated for their outstanding contribution to inclusion, wellbeing and community impact.
Kylie Smiles was awarded Swim Teacher of the Year, Persons with a Disability, a prestigious honour that reflects an ongoing dedication to creating accessible aquatic experiences for all.
“We need to meet each person with expertise and care and do our best to deliver information in a way that enables success,” Kylie said. “Water is a great equaliser and a place of joy that all should have access to.”
“Yawa Aquatic Centre is a welcoming space for people of all abilities and our swim programs aims to help others feel safe around the water.”
The ARV Industry Awards celebrate excellence across Victoria’s aquatics and recreation sector and shines a spotlight on individuals and venues that create meaningful change in their communities. For Yawa, this recognition reflects the team’s dedication. consistently going above and beyond to deliver positive experiences.
Yawa was also represented in the highly commended honours with team member Lisa Westlake recognised in the Group Exercise Instructor category. With more than three decades of experience, Lisa’s inclusive, community-minded approach has made a lasting impact on members and communities.
Together, these recognitions highlight the strength of Yawa’s team and ongoing focus on creating inclusive environments where everyone feels welcome.
Yawa’s achievements also formed part of a broader night of recognition for Belgravia Leisure, with team members and venues acknowledged for their impact across health, inclusion and sustainability.
