MPSA Lifeguards Shine at Victorian Pool Lifeguard Challenge
Mornington Peninsula Shire Active is celebrating the outstanding achievements of two lifeguard teams who represented Yawa Aquatic Centre and Pelican Park Recreation Centre at the 2026 Victorian Pool Lifeguard Challenge.
Held on Thursday 16 July at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC), the annual competition brought together 24 teams from aquatic facilities across Victoria to put their rescue skills, teamwork and emergency response capabilities to the test.
Competing in the challenge for the third consecutive year, Mornington Peninsula Shire Active’s teams delivered their strongest performance yet, securing an impressive third-place finish while also placing seventh overall. In an exciting result, the teams also ended the four-year podium streak of the competition’s defending champions.
The third-place team consisted of Mikaela, Sienna, Paris and Lochie, while Alec, Tadhg, Beau, Ellie and Tildy proudly represented the organisation in the seventh-place team.
The Victorian Pool Lifeguard Challenge is designed to simulate real-life scenarios that lifeguards may encounter in aquatic environments. Competitors are assessed across a range of disciplines including water rescues, first aid, CPR, spinal management, emergency response procedures and communication under pressure and a series of aquatic races. The event highlights the professionalism, knowledge and teamwork required to keep aquatic facilities safe every day.
